Our Story
The name Ohana was from our late coach and our founders’ team in NYC. It represents our paddling family and the culture of balancing inclusion within the team and competitive level on the race course. When our founders moved to Boston, they wanted to carry that name and build that culture here. On ONE, we firmly believe in the idea that a team can be both inclusive and competitive. No matter where you start from, every small step forward as an individual helps the team leap towards our spot as a top contender wherever we race.
Though we are a separate team, our founding principles stem from our founders’ team in NYC. Our hibiscus contains 5 petals, each representing a member of their late coach’s family, as it took the sacrifice of his entire family to build a team. At our inception in 2015, the flower was incomplete and bloomed fully with fully formed petals and paddle stamens as we met our mission to grow our members, our team, and our community. We have proudly been maintaining this mission since 2015 and have plans to grow our programs further in the years to come.
ONE crews consist of people of all ages, backgrounds, fitness levels and sizes. We train hard on the water and enjoy eating and exploring other activities together off the water. Though there are plenty of #ONEshenanigans and novice paddlers, we are fierce competitors once we hit the start line. Whether we are competing with more than half a boat of novice paddlers, high school students, or missing paddlers, ONE has consistently ranked in the top teams in every festival and race that we attend. We are where we are because of the effort from every single person on our team. Join us and see if ONE is right for you!
